Solar Panels System

Solar Panels System
Now we all know that solar energy is good for the environment and it can save us money in the long run by decreasing our electrical bill. What I’d like to share is how the solar panels actually convert the suns energy into electricity. I think the most valuable thing for creating an energy efficient and self sustaining home is to educate yourself. You need to learn the ins and outs of solar power systems and wind power systems in order to use them in your home. If you can gain an understanding of how much energy you use and what it is that uses this energy then you start to think about how much is wasted for no good reason. When you think twice before boiling a full kettle for one cup of tea then you have begun your journey to an energy efficient home.

Right, let’s get back to the solar panel system. Solar panels collect the suns energy or radiation and convert it into electricity. The solar panels are made up of solar cells which are in fact large semiconductors or diodes. This large area p-n junction diode when exposed to sunlight will convert the sunrays into usable electric current. The photons striking the surface of the solar panels generate energy which causes electrons knocked out of their orbits and released. The solar cells have electric fields which pull these free electrons in a directional current. The higher the quality and quantity of these solar cells in a solar panel the higher the amount of electricity it can generate. This conversion process is called the Photovoltaic Effect.

The amount of sunlight that strikes the solar panels is obviously of great importance. This is called Solar Insolation.

Solar panels work best when placed in direct sunlight, away from obstructions that might cast shade, and in areas with high regional solar insolation ratings. Weather conditions will affect the output of solar panels, shade caused by obstructions to direct sunlight, and the angle and position at which the solar panel is installed

Dynamic mounts can be used to optimize the efficiency of the Solar Panels. Dynamic mounts follow the position of the sun in the sky and rotate the solar panel to get the maximum amount of direct exposure as possible.
